A CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Olohuone 306,4 km² City Art Festival in Turku June 6th – 9th 2012

Olohuone 306,4 km² is an open city art festival held annually at the beginning of June in Turku. It combines the various arts and offers possibilities to experience art in surprising places and situations. Olohuone art society encourages people to participate in art and to see their surroundings in a new way.

2012 festival is looking for art works related to theme TOUCH. You may offer a work that is situated in Turku and comments somehow the place. Your work can be e.g. an installation, performance, show, tour, urban game, lecture, workshop or something audiovisual. We are also looking for art work and performers for the festival clubs.

What is touch?

Touch reminds us of things that are close to us, it tells us the world we live in we are not alone. It is physical and spiritual, it is gentle and rough and it creates tension. Touch defines encounters and it has the power to let us cry and laugh. What is touch for you?

Submit a proposal!

Proposals can be submitted by private persons, work groups or communities. The proposal should include a work plan, schedule, budget and, if needed, other documents.

The more detailed a description you provide of your art work, the better. Tell us, where te work takes place, how much time it takes, is it weather proof and what kind of materials you need for creating the work. Olohuone art society supports the material purchase of the chosen works.

Proposals must be submitted online or via mail by November 30th 2011. They will be reviewed by the executive committee of Olohuone art society along with invited experts during week 50. All  those who submitted proposals will be contacted after the selection.

The society will pay a stipend of no less than 200 euros for the selected art works; the exact sum of the stipend will be confirmed after the financing is clear. Furthermore, Olohuone art society will get permissions to carry out the art works and assist the artists with practical preparations. The budget for a single art work has been  approximately 200-700 € in previous years. The final economic situation will be resolved in spring 2012.

The urban art festival Olohuone 306.4 km² takes place from the 6th to the 9th of June in Turku. Living Room 306,4 km² is a city art festival, held annually at the beginning of June in Turku, a city

situated on the southwest coast of Finland. The festival offers an opportunity for people and artists of all fields to experience art in surprising places and situations, encourages people to participate in art and to see their surroundings differently. The festival is free of charge.
